From skyscrapers turned into high-rise farms, to your own home, we look to feed the world.

By the year 2050 the global population is expected to exceed 9 billion. The amount of arable land is decreasing due to poor management practices and there currently isn’t enough left to feed 9 billion people. As we claim more land for farms we increase nutrient runoff and pesticide use. Current sources of produce are in areas where freshwater is a limited resource and crop yields are subject to weather conditions. Additionally transportation of produce cross-country on an aging infrastructure is detrimental to the environment.

We have developed a sustainable, modular aeroponic growth system designed for use in a controlled environment so that it can operate year-round in any climate. uses 92% less water and 60% less nutrient mass per kg of plant yield. Plant density is increased eight-fold per sq ft at a relative growth rate of 125%. The system uses an average of approximately 200 watts to illuminate an 8 sq ft growth area.

How It Works

Go up, go out, expand in any direction.

Our system uses a series of racks with a base controller, and upper cubes that stack on the bases. Each base can support 10 aero units, vertically or horizontally or any combination.  Each aero unit provides a 2ft x4ft growth area. The tops of the units are interchangeable, allowing for different planting densities. Plumbing connections between cubes are done with a quick connect system, with pressure stop, so you can continue operating while one or more units are detached.

We use a high pressure aeroponic system. The roots are enclosed in the Aero Basin. A nutrient tea is mixed in a holding container, it is then pumped into a pressurized tank. An automated control system periodically allows the tea to spray onto the root zone through atomizing mist nozzles. The high pressure spray purges and oxygenates the root zone, leaving a fresh surface for water and nutrient absorption. Any of the tea not taken up by the plant falls into the basin and is returned to the holding container via a gravity siphon. Bottom line: water and nutrients are more effectively delivered, stimulating plant growth, and there is no waste as the remainder is recycled.

The spectrum of these LED lights was designed to match the photosynthetic response curve of Chlorophyll α, β, and characteristic carotenoids. What does it mean? These LEDs produce light only in the wave lengths that stimulate plant growth, no waste. They are also highly directional, meaning the light goes where you want it...on your plants.

Fully customize growth conditions for your crop.

Every system comes with a hand held controller that plugs into the system base via an ethernet cable. A dial on the side lets you navigate the menus, simply hold it in to access the manual overrides, and click it to select your options. You can monitor system pressure, change the spray cycle for more or less frequent watering, change the lighting cycle, and access maintenance functions like priming the pump after cleaning, or fully draining the system.

Harnessing renewable energy for growth

Our full scale growth sites utilize anaerobic digesters to turn food waste into heat and electricity. The waste from the digester can be used as part of the nutrients for the aeroponic system or as a great fertilizer for field application. Systems are also compatible with direct solar and wind power generation. Full scale sites are designed to optimize the balance between heat and electrical needs.
